Magnetic Particle Inspection
Magnetic particle inspection is a process in which a ferromagnetic material is magnetized, and the applied magnetic particles (either dry or in liquid suspension) accumulate in areas where there are discontinuities (such as cracks, folds, porosity, or inclusions) that interrupt the magnetic field flow.
It is particularly effective for detecting linear surface and near-surface defects in ferromagnetic materials such as carbon steels, ferrous alloys, and castings.
